Boston College Point-Shaving Scandal begins.
December 16, 1978
Boston College beats Harvard 86-83 at Chestnut Hill in the first of eight games in which players are subsequently found to have accepted money from gamblers and organized crime members to shave points. Rick Kuhn is subsequently found guilty of sports bribery; Jim Sweeney is never charged and reputedly granted immunity for his testimony; and Ernie Cobb is acquitted on all charges.
